Existing for a moment, Tulsa, Oklahoma’s the Wax Dolls made a glorious noise. In their short time, the Dolls recorded and released two cassette EPs (Coming to Get Ya! & Flaming. Sonic. Noise.), engineered by a teenage Jonathan Allen, and a third, unreleased EP (Cacophony vs. Euphony) with Martin Hallstead (of N.O.T.A. fame), as well as running their own lo-fi cassette label (FTI Records) releasing compilations featuring their friends and themselves. The Wax Dolls were the young kids on a scene firmly rooted in American indie rock, but pushed boundaries further as they aged. For the first time, an anti-career spanning compilation, including three of the unreleased Cacophony vs. Euphony tracks (the fourth will be added once found!), showcasing their growth from Sleater-Kinney/Blondie post punk roots into the psychedelic, freak out chaos they called art. After high school Jonathan (guitar, songwriter) went on to Music for Headphones via The Upsidedown, while Rebecca Mitchell (vocals, guitar), Carolyn Brett (organ, synth) and Patrick Richardson (drums) renamed the band Pipsqueak and continued on for another eighteen months. Rebecca is currently in the Providence, Rhode Island band Made in Mexico, Patrick has played with numerous bands (including Music for Headphones) but currently is drumming for Wormrider, and the whereabouts of Carolyn are unknown, though we’ve heard something about Texas.
